Atal Tunnel
The Atal Tunnel, named in honor of the former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is an engineering marvel situated in the mighty Himalayas. Spanning a length of 9.02 kilometers, it connects Manali in Himachal Pradesh to Lahaul-Spiti Valley, providing a crucial all-weather passage.
The tunnel holds immense significance as it has reduced the travel time and distance between Manali and Lahaul-Spiti Valley. Previously, the region remained cut off for several months during winters due to heavy snowfall and the closure of the Rohtang Pass. However, with the Atal Tunnel in place, the valley now remains accessible throughout the year.
